Principle
Ref
1. TSI 8130 Loading & Penetration of solid/ oil based particulates through filter material. Loading the Filters against Solid aerosols of NaCl or oil based aerosols of DOP to measure the efficiency of the filter. NIOSH 42 CFR,Part 84,
2. Penetration of solid particulates through filter material. Filtering face-piece Respirator are tested against micron sized NaCl particulates to measure the efficiency of the filter. EN 149 :2001
IS 9473 : 2002
3. Penetration of oil based particulates through filter material. An aerosol of paraffin oil droplets is generated by atomizing heated paraffin oil .The concentration of this aerosol is measured before and after the filter to measure the efficiency of the filter. EN 149 :2001
IS 9473 : 2002
4. Carbon Dioxide content of the inhalation air (dead space) inside the facepiece
The apparatus consists essentially of a breathing machine with solenoid valves controlled by the breathing machine  flow meter, a CO2 analyser and a humidifier. The carbon dioxide content of the inhaled air  measured and recorded. EN 149 :2001
IS 9473 : 2002
5. Breathing Resistance & Exhalation flow test of the facepiece To determine the performance of Inhalation & Exhalation for operation, Leakage & tensile force. EN 149 :2001
IS 9473 : 2002
6. Total Inward leakage of facepiece The laboratory tests to indicate that the filtering half can be used by the wearer to protect with high probability against the potential hazard to be expected.
EN 149 :2001
IS 9473 : 2002
7. Flammability of face piece To Indicate the material used shall not present a danger for the wearer and shall not be highly flammable nature. When test in accordance the face-piece shall not continue to burn after removal from the flame. EN 149 :2001
IS 9473 : 2002
8. Clogging test of the filter material To Indicate the material used shall not present a danger for the wearer and shall not be highly flammable nature. When test in accordance the face-piece shall not continue to burn after removal from the flame.
EN 149 :2001
IS 9473 : 2002
9. Gas penetration through filter bench test. Chlorine/Ammonia/ Organic vapour filters are tested with air mixture at an appropriate flow, concentration, and humidity. The breakthrough time is recorded as efficiency of the filter.
IS 8522 : 1977
IS 15323 : 2003
10. Field of Vision test The field of vision is the innermost line at any point of either the field of vision of the facepiece, or the natural field of vision of men. EN 149 :2001
IS 9473: 2002
11. Silica Dust Test Fine Silica dust is fed to a chamber .The test respirator mounted on a holder is exposed. The unretained suspension of silica dust on the membrane filter is measured. IS 9473 : 1980
12. Exhalation leak test Exhalation Valve Leakage Test to determine the diaphragm leakage through mask. IS 9473 : 1980 NIOSH 42 CFR,Part 84
13. Mechanical Strength Before testing for breathing resistance ,filtration efficiency and clogging ,the filter is subjected to a test simulating rough usage of the filter. After this treatment the filters shall show no mechanical defects and shall meet the requirements for breathing resistance ,filtering efficiency and clogging
